Returning Women's Mentoring Program

A growing number of women at Boise State University are coming back to school after a break in their education. Sometimes these women are referred to as "nontraditional Students," but there is nothing nontraditional about their growing numbers and abilities to succeed. Recognizing that this is a vital time of transition, the Women's Center created the Returning Women's Mentoring Program to provide these Students with additional resources and support services.

The primary purpose of the Mentor Program is to provide support and information to women students returning to college after an interruption in their formal education. Mentors are valuable campus leaders who can help create a welcoming environment for new Students in efforts to ease their transition and increase the likelihood of retaining them.

Experienced Students - Be a Mentor!

You can make a difference in a returning woman's life and provide the support she needs to be successful as a student. You can volunteer to be a mentor or you can receive internship credit for one of your classes.

Are you a nontraditional  woman student with at least 2 semesters at Boise State and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA? You can receive internship credit for serving as a returning women's mentor. Students, faculty or staff may also serve as a volunteer as an alternative to receiving academic credit.

Interviews for fall semester intern selection are conducted in April for assignments to be made for the following fall semester. Interviews for spring semester intern selection are conducted in November for assignments to be made for the following spring semester. A 10-hour training for interns is scheduled prior to the semester beginning.

If you are interested in being a mentor, please contact the Social Services Coordinator at 426-4259.
