Scholarship Information

The following is a listing of scholarship websites that focus in providing assistance to women students. There may be other eligibility requirements as well, so please refer to each scholarship's website for the most accurate information. Also, please check deadlines as different scholarships accept applications at different times of the year.

  • Article from Back2school.com

  • This isn't a scholarship page, but provides a good overview of the scholarship process as it applies to "non-traditional" (adult and/or single parent) students.

  • American Legion Auxilary's Non-Traditional Student Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a member of The American Legion, Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legion and shall have paid dues for the two preceding years and for the calendar year in which application is made. The applicant also must be a student who has had at least one year of college and is in need of financial assistance to pursue an undergraduate degree.

  • Anita Borg Scholarships for Women In Computer Science

  • Open to full-time women students entering their senior year of undergraduate study or those enrolled in a graduate program. Applicants should be Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field majors, and must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in their current program.

  • Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize

  • The Executive Committee of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) accepts nominations for the Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize to be awarded to an undergraduate woman for excellence in mathematics. All members of the mathematical community are invited to submit nominations for the Prize. The nominee may be at any level in her undergraduate career but must be an undergraduate as of October 1, 2005. She must either be a U.S. citizen or have a school address in the United States.

  • Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award

  • The Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award is for college sophomores and juniors studying physics, including space physics and geophysics, or geoscience. The award will be given annually to an exceptionally well-rounded student who excels in her studies as well as outdoor activities, service, sports, music, or other non-academic pursuits or who has overcome significant obstacles.

    AWIS also offers a graduate fellowship, the Ruth Satter Award, for an outstanding graduate student who interrupted her education for at least three years to raise a family.

  • Business and Professional Women's Foundation Career Advancement Scholarship

  • The BPW Foundation established the Career Advancement Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged women seeking to further their education. Scholarships are provided to women who wish to advance in their careers, or are soon to enter or re-enter the workforce.

  • Calgon Take Me Away Scholarship

  • Open to women over the age of 18 enrolled in a four-year college or university who have a 3.0+ GPA.

  • Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting

  • The Educational Foundation awards scholarships to women who are pursuing accounting degrees at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Executive Women International's Adult Students In Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship

  • Open to adult students at transitional points in their lives, including single parents, displaced workers, or individuals entering the workforce for the first time.

  • Inez Robb Memorial Scholarship
    The Boise Area Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers a scholarship to a selected undergraduate student at Boise State University.


  • Jeanette Rankin Foundation

  • Open to women over the age of 35 who meet low-income guidelines and are enrolled in an accredited school.

  • Martin Luther King/Meredyth Burns Community Service Scholarship

  • Microsoft Scholarship

  • For students from groups currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. While all candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility may apply, a large majority of scholarships will be awarded to female students, underrepresented minority students, and students with disabilities. Minority applicants must be a member of one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African-American, Hispanic, or Native American.

  • National Sculpture Society Scholarship

  • Scholarships of $1,000 each are available for students of figurative or representational sculpture. Applicants must also provide proof of financial need.

  • National Women's Studies Association

  • NWSA offers several annual scholarships and awards through its communities, including graduate scholarships.

  • Pat Dorman Women's Studies Scholarship

  • Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation

  • Provides financial assistance to low-income women with children who are pursuing education or training.

  • P.E.O. Scholarships

  • Raise the Nation

  • Raise The Nation celebrates independence through education by awarding grants and scholarships to single parent women. Please note there is a $25 application fee, but you can contact RTN to inquire about having the fee waived.

  • Single Parent Scholarships (Local)

  • Society of Women Engineers

  • Provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.

  • Soroptimist International Women's Opportunity Awards

  • Eligible applicants must be women who provide the primary financial support for their families, and who are enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, and cannot have already earned an undergraduate degree.

  • Strings Magazine Scholarship

  • Strings magazine is granting four college scholarship awards of $1,000 each year, based on financial need, academic merit, and community service. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be currently enrolled and majoring in music performance or music education at any degree-granting college or conservatory.

  • Sunshine Lady Foundation, Inc.

  • Offers scholarships to survivors of domestic violence and to workers in the field of domestic violence.

  • Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund

  • All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school. Scholarship awards are based primarily on financial need and previous achievements for women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least 10 years ago.

  • Tylenol Scholarship

  • For students with outstanding leadership qualities and academic performance who intend to enter the field of health care. Not specific to female students, but as Boise State has many nursing students this link might be useful.

  • USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship

  • Need-based scholarship program open to students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate coursework. Winners are chosen based on academic performance, leadership, activities, work experience and career and educational goals.

  • Wal-Mart Higher REACH Scholarship

  • Open to non-traditional students that have been employed by Wal-Mart for at least one year.

  • Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP)

  • The Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) is a project of The Sunshine Lady Foundation (SLF) of North Carolina.

    SLF believes that education is a powerful tool which breaks down barriers and opens doors of opportunity. The objective of the Women's Independence Scholarship Program is to help survivors of domestic violence obtain an education that will in turn offer them the chance to secure employment, personal independence and self sufficiency. Support is available for full or part-time students interested in attending vocational, community college, four-year degree or graduate studies programs.
